Einstein- A Life in Science Free Essays
This basic record, addresses the life of Albert Einstein, encompassing his amazing logical disclosures, opened up by the writers Michael White and John Gribbin in a book distributed in 1993. The book has evoked and pulled in incredible enthusiasm from magazines and papers. On the off chance that you have ever thought about what 'E=mc㠯⠿â ½' signifies, this is certainly the book for you. We will compose a custom exposition test on Einstein-A Life in Science or then again any comparable point just for you Request Now The book explains one of Einsteinââ¬â¢s most famous speculations, that of Quantum material science for which he got the notorious Nobel Prize. Einstein used to be a Patent Officer, which he appreciated on the grounds that he had a lot of extra an ideal opportunity to achieve his logical work. He kicked the bucket on the eighteenth of April 1955. His mind was expelled for clinical research, which you would discover astounding as it makes one think, would Einstein have truly needed his cerebrum evacuated? The book clarifies the hypothesis of relativity (E=mc2), amazingly well. The hypothesis depended on two ensuing factors: Firstly, 'reverberating' which as clarified by Newton, was that the speed of light is the equivalent for all onlookers, independent of what their relative speed is. On the off chance that an American rocket, for instance, had a material science lab ready and was propelled one way, and the equivalent was finished with a Japanese rocket, sent off the other way, any examinations completed on either rocket would be actually the equivalent. The subsequent propose utilizes Maxwellââ¬â¢s conditions, which presume that light is consistent so it is composed as 'c'. This prompted Einsteinââ¬â¢s expectations, which were not 'commonsensical.' He anticipated that a moving ruler and everything around it recoils and gets heavier, while a moving clock runs moderate. On the off chance that an eyewitness sees a spaceship going past him at 75% of the speed of light, and another flies the other way at a similar speed, onlookers in either spaceship will quantify the overall speed of the other spaceship as 0.96c, not 1.5c as the time eases back down. This shows the closer an individual goes to the speed of light, the more slow the time will get. On the off chance that somebody goes at the speed of light, time will stop. 'E=mc㠯⠿â ½' implies that vitality is equivalent to mass very still. At the point when mass vanishes, for instance in an atomic splitting procedure, this measure of vitality must show up in some other structure. This likewise reveals to us the complete vitality of a molecule of mass, 'm', sitting very still. Einstein shaped piece of the group taking a shot at the nuclear bomb. It was determined that a huge measure of vitality discharged in a splitting response would be utilized in a nuclear bomb. Einstein consented to be the representative for mainstream researchers and sign a letter convincing Roosevelt to make a move. He was later known as the dad of the nuclear bomb along these lines. The outcome was crushing. This was against Einsteinââ¬â¢s radical perspectives however he had no way out as the Nazis could construct the bomb if the partners didn't. From that point forward, the Americans and Russians have been hustling in fighting. The nuclear bomb was worked by the USA. The Russians followed. It was a weapons contest between the Democratic and Communist world. The USA made the nuclear bomb, Russia in the end made up for lost time. At that point the USA assembled the atomic bomb. A few different nations assembled the atomic bomb as well. His solid radical perspectives and political perspectives likewise made him a superb individual with general society. Einstein A Life in Science is a phenomenal book and merits prescribing to the individuals who are interested about what 'E=mc㠯⠿â ½' signifies. It is intriguing to discover that Einstein put together his work with respect to the wonderful accomplishments made by different researchers, for example, Newton and Maxwell. I would prescribe this book to the more established crowd, especially to the individuals who have an enthusiasm for relativity and quantum material science. This is an extremely fascinating book, which I delighted in perusing on the grounds that there is a long way to go about Einsteinââ¬â¢s life and his amazing work. One ought not get put off by taking a gander at the thickness of the book and the important part composing. When you get into this book, you won't have any desire to quit perusing. By and large, I don't think this book clarifies the science unmistakably. I needed to peruse the extraordinary hypothesis of relativity twice before I comprehended the idea obviously. This book should be progressively compact so the peruser can comprehend the idea all the more effectively on the grounds that it very well may be befuddling on occasion. The language utilized in this book is at an elevated level, so the more youthful crowd will think that its difficult to comprehend the idea. Then again, the assortment of sentence structures prevents the peruser from getting exhausted. This book is an incredible guide to individuals as the message is that in the event that one attempts to their most extreme potential, they can accomplish a great deal. What Does A Motivational Speech So Emotionally Changing...
Most everyone has been on a sports team, or has a concept of what happens before a game in higher age athletics. Perhaps you donââ¬â¢t have any concept of either, but just really enjoy listening to others speak to help you feel motivated to do something. That was my exact genre, motivational speeches, specifically in athletics. These two are different in their own ways, but their message is always the same. What exactly makes a motivational speech so emotionally changing? Is there any kind of rhyme or reason to how they are words are spoken or is it just a natural talent of the speaker to be truly motivational? Reading Wardleââ¬â¢s piece on ââ¬Å"Writing in New Workplacesâ⬠made me think of common workplaces like coffee shops and big businesses, however, depending on who you talk to, playing sports is a workplace, and we all have to be able to communicate. In this specific case Iââ¬â¢m talking about motivation, but there are plenty of other types of communication that occur when playing sports. If a sports team is a new atmosphere for you, you probably wonââ¬â¢t be the one standing up in front of the whole team trying to get them to all come together for a common cause. Youââ¬â¢d most likely just leave that to the guys that have been here longer or to Strenkert 2 the coaches. Coaches donââ¬â¢t quite get the same luxury unfortunately. You go to the mall, and there in center court is a bunch of cute, soft, wiggly puppies and kittens; some of them are in cages and some are being walked around by handlers. There is a crowd of adults and children surrounding them. You just have to hold one of them for just a minute, and then you are hooked. We will write a custom essay sample on Owning a Pet or any similar topic only for you Order Now Everyone knows that pets are loveable, soft and cuddly; what we forget about is the responsibility that comes with pet ownership. Outside of the time commitment to caring for a pet, there is also the financial aspect. When you own a pet, they have to be fed, groomed, exercised and loved; most of the time, with puppies, there is the training aspect of getting them to let you know when they need to go outside to eliminate waste and not to chew on furniture or other house fixtures. Try to avoid the use of second person ââ¬Å"youâ⬠in your writing. Pets also add to the normal housekeeping routine due to pet hair and shedding which may require additional vacuuming. And, with cat ownership, there is the need to keep the litter box clean. All of this takes time from an already busy schedule. Add to that the expense of owning a pet: food, grooming, veterinarian and training expenses, to name a few. Consequently, what seemed like a good idea can have a drastic impact on your life. Most of us work; what do you do with the pet during the day when you are away from home? Or, what if you plan a trip and are unable to take the pet with you? Do you have a family member willing to take on the responsibility of caring for your pet while you are gone? Or, do you pay to have the pet boarded while you are gone? Cats are fairly self-sufficient and can be left alone for long periods of time; dogs, not so much. If you own a dog and are away at work, what do you do about the dog using when it needs to go outside? These are all important considerations prior to walking out the door with that cute, fluffy pet. We all know that pets are loving and loyal companions. Above all, one should consider the consequences of pet ownership, in terms of time and expenses. How to cite Owning a Pet, Papers

Trio, by Edwin Morgan Essay Example
Trio, by Edwin Morgan Essay Trio, by Edwin Morgan, is a poem that deals with a chance encounter one winter evening in Glasgow. The poet happened to notice a passing group, or two girls and a boy, whose very happiness seemed to radiate from them in a tangible form. It is this momentary incident which prompts Morgan to search for some deeper meaning behind the trios joy, and consider humanitys ability to draw happiness from apparently mundane sources. To bring across these ideas, and his strength of conviction, the poet employs a variety of techniques. It is how he uses these to such effect in conveying the life-enhancing themes of the poem that I intend to investigate. From the very onset of the poem, the idea of a trio is clearly important; not only as the title, but in several connotations which will be brought out in the duration of the passage. Musically, a Trio consists of a group of three musicians working together harmoniously to produce music a positive effect, allowing more complex, intricate music patterns. Religiously, too, the word Trio holds significance; as a Hebrew number of completion; the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; the three Magi of the nativity story; and the three crosses of the Crucifixion. All of these are seen as having positive influences on people, and concepts that will be elaborated on later in the poem are introduced to the readers mind with this title. We will write a custom essay sample on Trio, by Edwin Morgan specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Trio, by Edwin Morgan specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Trio, by Edwin Morgan specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer The opening section of Trio is effective in a variety of ways, both technically and in setting the scene for the reader. Significant detail is used to establish a particular setting in this case, Buchanan Street, in Glasgow, on a Sharp winter evening, where the poet notices A young man and two girls presumably the Trio that is to feature in the poem. In addition to this more obvious technique, Morgan also employs control of line length and sentence structure, to create, from early in the poem, a feeling of tension and drama. By ending the first line with quickly, on a sharp winter evening, the reader is uncertain as to whether such a description is negative or positive winter and sharp, coupled with night-time, hold many negative connotations, of discomfort and cold, and traditional fear of the night, thus raising tension in the reader. In addition to this, the sentence structure echoes the words themselves, quickly, with short sharp words, the sentences filled with numerous commas, starts and stops. In the second line, parenthesis is employed in the dash, signalling a train of thought in the poets mind, an epiphany, where he receives a sudden, dramatic personal insight into the scene before him, which will continue for most of the poem. Inversion is also used to heighten the tension in the first two lines of the poem, where Morgan withholds the information as to who the poem is about until the second line, rather than the more conventional first. This constant change, moving towards climax and anti-climax, is added to with the use of the non-sentence, and the purely present tense used when describing an event past; coming up still changing, even in the poets memory? Despite the musical connotations of Trio, of three people united for a common cause, Morgan originally creates an impression of the young people as separates, individuals, rather than a group. Each person is allocated their own line for their description, via the control of line length, and is referred to in the singular, not the plural; The young man the girl the girl. In addition to this, each is described not by what features they share, but by the different things they are carrying; a guitar, a baby, a Chihuahua. Each person separate, individual, carrying a different object. However, this initial impression is to be short lived; in the following lines, and indeed for the remainder of the poem, Morgan conveys the sense of how the three are united in happiness. This is brought out in how all references to the three are now in the plural, no longer referring to individuals, but to a group; the three their they. Acting together simultaneously, their happiness reflected in each other, with the word choice further bringing out this idea. Laughing clearly implies happiness and joy, as does the imagery of their breath rising up in a Cloud of happiness, laughing out their pleasure and contentment, frosted breath mingling harmoniously in one cloud. This cloud image seems almost a reversion of the traditional cloud of misery idea, of bad luck and despair following the unfortunate target instead, happiness flourishes around this trio. One particular thing that a poet can do is reveal the wonderful and miraculous within the mundane and ordinary. In Trio Morgan uses this to good effect with the dialogue of Wait till he sees this but! The particular dialect helps to embed the incident in the real world, as the practice of ending a sentence with but is peculiar to the Glasgow area realistic, and as such, imaginable to the reader, lending credibility to the rest of the poets epiphany. It also conveys the sense of the dramatic which was established in the opening lines, as two unknown factors are introduced to the reader, leading them to speculate as to who he is, and what, exactly, has been bought for him to cause such excitement and exclamation. In addition to this, the picture of three people, carrying gifts, things that are precious to them, has overtones leading back to the title, with the three magi who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. Now that the Christian analogy has been signalled, the poet goes on to consider the gifts that these young people are carrying. In an apostrophe, the poet characterises these gifts as Orphean sprig! Melting baby! Warm Chihuahua! The reference to Orpheus, a character of Greek legend as a poet and skilled lyre player, has associations of music, and stringed instruments as both lyre and guitar are stringed. However, while Orphean seems to refer to the guitar, there is more than one possible interpretation. The guitar was earlier described as being tied at the neck with silver tinsel tape and a brisk sprig of mistletoe. This sprig could be the one mentioned later in the poem, and as mistletoe is traditionally kissed under at Christmas time, the poet is bringing connotations of love and happiness to the concept of music, as well as the traditional viewing of plants and the natural world as healthy and positive. With Melting baby! Morgan is not only talking about the standard descriptions of babies melting peoples hearts but also the idea that the baby is literally generating warmth, via body heat and therefore melting the edge off the frost laced wind on that sharp evening. There are even sickeningly sweet overtones of the saying butter wouldnt melt in his mouth, portraying the baby as completely innocent, perhaps furthering the religious connotations of the baby Jesus. The idea of warmth is furthered with Warm Chihuahua! both in terms of the dog being warm, wrapped up in a tartan coat and its body heat lending warmth to those around it. Warmth has always has positive connotations, at least in terms of on a freezing night, so these gifts add up to create a very positive, comforting effect, despite their initial diversity, brought together by the poets representation of the group through word choice and imagery. Throughout the poem, it is clear that the poet considers these gifts to be of some symbolic importance. Though exactly what their significance consists of is not made clear until the end of the poem, the change in tone and register when discussing them makes it clear that what they do symbolise is very important in the poets eyes. The register becomes increasingly complex and allusive with references to vale of tears, Christ is born, or is not born and abdicates all very formal, serious language, laced with biblical references. Vale of tears in the Bible refers to the world which we live in, full of hardship and suffering, and how only through Christ, and His sacrifice, do we find true freedom and happiness and escape. Yet the poet does not seem to be pushing this idea rather, with Whether Christ is born, or is not born he seems to be saying that it is irrelevant, that it is, in fact, through ourselves that people find true happiness, however briefly. With You put paid to fate it is uncertain to which you the poet is addressing. It is clearly important, as the you has been emphasised by placing it at the end of the line, but I do not believe it is the reader to whom Morgan is addressing. One possible interpretation is that he is talking about the gifts, and their bearers that these gifts, and what they symbolise, have the power to transform the reality of our world into momentary happiness, by sharing them with others. While the poet seems to go through some uncertainty with whether Christ is born, or is not born, both the contrasting change in register and the alliteration of put paid to fate highlights his eventual certainty. After the more formal style of language previously used, the slang of put paid makes this conclusion stand out significantly abdicates is the word used to describe this withdrawal of the pressures and troubles of life from the scene. That particular word choice has several interesting connotations; the ab dication of lifes troubles temporarily, allowing human happiness; or perhaps Christs abdication from the throne of Heaven, in order to allow human happiness. Whichever interpretation you prefer, the conclusion is clear happiness is possible.

How to Write Acknowledgements - Proofeds Writing Tips
How to Write Acknowledgements - Proofeds Writing Tips How to Write Acknowledgements If you are near the end of your thesis, you can start to think about putting on the finishing touches. One thing you will have to do here is write your acknowledgements. A lot of people worry about this, but thereââ¬â¢s really no need. As we are about to show, its actually quite simple! What Are Acknowledgements? The acknowledgement section of a thesis is where you can thank everyone who has helped you in your research. It is typically located at the beginning of your thesis, right after the contents page, and shouldnââ¬â¢t really be more than one or two pages long. The best thing to do is to keep it concise. Who Should I Thank? Think about the people who were of crucial importance during your research. This could include friends, family or professors, or even volunteers who have taken part in your research. Its also important to acknowledge professional bodies who have given you funding or other help. How Should I Write It? There are no strict requirements for the tone of your acknowledgements; its essentially the one section where you can be a little bit more informal! Try to make sure the tone fits the person or organization youre thanking, though, maintaining a formal approach when addressing funding bodies or other official groups. Other than trying to be concise, the main thing you should keep in mind is varying your language, if only because starting every sentence with I would like to thank will sound a bit dull. There are several ways you could word your thanks. A few suggestions are: This research would not have been possible withoutâ⬠¦ My sincere thanks go toâ⬠¦ I am grateful toâ⬠¦ Heartfelt thanks toâ⬠¦ I would like to express my gratitude toâ⬠¦ Appreciation is due toâ⬠¦ I acknowledge the contribution ofâ⬠¦ I am indebted toâ⬠¦ And thatââ¬â¢s all there is to it! Relax and enjoy writing your acknowledgements. If youve got this far in the thesis-writing process, youre over the toughest bit now!

What Not to Bring to College
What Not to Bring to College Putting together an awesome college packing list can seem simple enough ... until you take a second look and begin to question whether or not you really need all of that stuff. So how can you decide what to bring and what to leave behind? While each students situation is, of course, unique, there are some general dont-bring-em items that definitely shouldnt be brought to college, whether youre a first-year student or a senior or at a large college or a super small one. High School Paraphernalia You know those trophies, class rings, and other items that all symbolize your time in high school? Theyre best left behind. While they may bring back great memories for you, they also make you look like youre still stuck back in high school. Can you bring the lucky football cleats that helped you win the championship? Of course. Should you bring your championship trophy? Better not. High School Clothes Of course, some of the clothes you wore in high school will work just fine in college. But some items, like those that advertise you were on JV Cheer your junior year, are probably best left at home. College campuses practically give t-shirts away through clubs, activities, and special events anyway, so rest assured that you wont be without comfy tees for long. Candles If youre living in the residence halls, these are rarely, if ever, allowed. And if youre living in an off-campus apartment, chances are they arent allowed there, either. Be safe and leave the candles at home so you can avoid any potential conflicts with your RA or your landlord. Large Appliances Try to keep things as compact as possible. So while that popcorn maker your favorite auntie got you may seem pretty cool, its probably best left at home. Larger appliances will take up a ton of room and likely will only be used a few times a year if at all. (Microwaves and mini-fridges, of course, are the exception.) Expensive Equipment and Electronics You may have spent months saving up for some fancy-schmancy stereo system. And as awesome as you think it is, the thief in the building next door likes it even more. Dont tempt fate or your fellow classmates by bringing in equipment or electronics that stand out because of their high cost. Hard-to-Replace Paperwork While you might need things like your birth certificate and your social security card once or twice during your time in school, its better to bring it to campus, show it to whoever needs to see it (the financial aid office, for example), and then send or bring it back home. If items like these disappear, it can be a major pain in the brain to replace them especially if someones stolen them and committed identity theft. Off-Season Clothes While figuring out which clothes to bring to college can be a challenge, one easy rule to go by is to leave off-season clothes behind. If youre heading to school in August, for example, you can probably get your warmest winter jacket in a few months. Theres no need to have clothes you arent going to wear take up already limited space in your room. Duplicates of What Your Roommate Has There are quite a few things you can share with your roommate, so make sure to touch base with him or her before you pack. Two microwaves, for example, will steal a ton of space and be unnecessary. Figure out what each of you wants to bring and then divide and conquer. Drugs and Alcohol This should go without saying, but moving into your residence hall room or apartment with drugs and/or alcohol is a pretty rough way to start out the year. Besides setting yourself up to focus on things other than academics (which is what youre in college for at the end of the day), it can set you off on the wrong foot with an RA or landlord if anyone sees you. Dont sabotage all the work you did to get to college by making a dumb mistake when you first arrive.

Ethics - Assignment Example Employers cannot limit individual liberties even if the same possesses a proven cause. Symbolism for a drug search cannot qualify an unwarranted search. This widespread practice can be damaging to an employee. It constraints personal privacy and triggers emotional trauma in employees (Miller, 2010). This means that it may lead to a loss of reputation in circumstances whereby an employee could rescue the same. It is vital to note that there are reasonable ways to address substance abuse in workplaces. For instance, employers could invest in education of employees to remedy the situation. In this perspective, employees could engage in awareness programs (Delpo, 2009). It is agreeable that drug awareness programs have been responsible for reduction in drug abuse since its inception. As regards the theory of utilitarianism, polygraph tests become unethical practices. In this theory, every act should be aimed at the satisfaction of an individual. This constraints the basis for drug tests which normally propos on the idea of protecting a companyââ¬â¢s

Biography Of Alfred Binet The Psychologist Research Paper
Biography Of Alfred Binet The Psychologist - Research Paper Example Thus, he began studying the natural sciences with a particular emphasis in neurology. In 1891, Binet took over as the director of the Laboratory of Physiological Psychology in Sorbonne. Specifically, Binet was interested in the development of children, specifically in the field of the developing intelligence (ââ¬Å"Binet, Alfred). Intelligence, to this day, is still a highly debated field. The debate focuses on two main issues: defining what intelligence is and deciding whether it is an inherently biological feature or whether the environment defines it. Society has attempted to figure out ways to quantify the measure of oneââ¬â¢s intelligence and this started with Binet. At first, Binet was interested in developing tests in which they would be used to see whether a child was suffering from a mental disability or not. This started when he was asked to join the Free Society for the Psychological Study of Children. His goal was to take this study and use a highly scientific and qua ntitative method in order to quantify this construct of intelligence. This use of quantifiable measurements lead to Binet creating the first types of intelligence tests, making him the father of all the modern intelligence tests that are used today to measure constructs from IQ to scholastic achievement. At the forefront of his intelligence tests, a student under the name of Theodore Simon appointed himself as Binetââ¬â¢s assistant in the study of childhood intelligence. They developed a scale of intelligence, which became famously known as the Binet-Simon scale. The Binet-Simon scale was the first created by Binet and Simon that was a psychological test in order to gauge a childââ¬â¢s intelligence level. The scale consisted of a number of tests, which would require the child to demonstrate different ways of thinking and problem solving. Some of these tests were aimed at measuring the childââ¬â¢s perception in response to a stimulus such as light, auditory, and tactile resp onses. Other tests worked on a recognition principle using the recognition of food as the construct. This would involve presenting the food with an object that wasnââ¬â¢t food, but was similar in the dimensions, appearance, etc. to see whether or not the child would be able to tell a difference. In addition, there were tests that were designed to gauge how effectively the childââ¬â¢s motor function and coordination worked through the execution of simple movements through commands. Lastly, they would test what today could be considered general intelligence in that it involved the recognition and statement of what objects were. This was accomplished through the use of physical objects, pictures, etc. which required not only for the child to recognize and process what it was, but be able to tell the tester verbally what they were seeing. Comparison tests were also used in order to determine whether the child could discriminate against objects, which were similar, but different. T ests in attention, suggestibility, memory, and problem solving were also conducted in order to determine the childââ¬â¢s intellectual level (Binet). Binet was very thorough in his methods as he wanted to use a scientific method as well as be able to quantify his data. However, he was a self-learned psychologists which in the end gave him a grave disadvantage when we was developing theories regarding intelligence. Thus, many of his scales were

Cry Freedom :: essays research papers
Cry Freedom Cry freedom is a real life drama recorded as a movie. The movies main character is steve biko (played by the actor Denzel Washington), a man in his early thirties who has the ability to lead his people; the blacks againt the South African injustices. He’s most recognised point or view was „we don’t want to be forced into your society...I’m not going to be what you want me to be.'; Biko was able to show what apartheid has done when he meets a white journalist by the name of Donald Woods. He was a white who was strongly againts ‘supremacy’ as he beleived that it built a wall of hatred which infact apartheid was causing. Woods slowly gives awarness of the apartheid’s violent side through the submission of photographs of a ghetto being attack by South African police into the newspaper he is the editor of. At a sad note Biko is arrested on his way to a rally and is beaten to death in custody; the governmen announces he’s death as a ‘hunger strike’. Donald Woods is deeply outraged and shocked. He goes to see the body and takes photographs of the beaten body and plans to smuggle the photo’s out of the country which includes a plan of him diskized as a preast and the escape of his family. Before that he was placed on house arrest as Biko was through with his revolutionary era of speaches. My personal response to the apartheid issue is that im simply tottally against that because it cause discrimination and stronger racism. But I guess that strong racism within a certain community caused apartheid. The incidnts that were occuring in South Africa were absolutly discracfull to how a country was behaving in the eyes of the world. I believe that preventing South africa from participating from olympic and sporting events as well as trade relations was a very good initiative taken by world commitee’s. „Black deaths in custody'; ‘Black deaths in custody’ was a story presented by ABC’s four courners. The story is mainly about Aboriginal deaths in Western Australia during a period of 1980 to the 1990’s. As a reporter states at the beginning of the report a 17 year old aboriginal boy was killed by police officers as said but the case was seen as a sort of an accident. The local out rage by the aboriginal community was devastating; the pub was attacked with steel rods used for the local railway, then looted and futher more distroyed.

The Extraordinary Life Of George Washington - 1954 Words
General Washington: A Biography Your Name here Class Abbreviation (Ex: AMHIST) Class #: Class Title Instructor s Name Date Here There have been numerous biographies penned about the extraordinary life of George Washington. This essay will focus on Washington s life in terms of his military career. When George Washington is examined in light of his abilities as a leader of men in battle, a complicated portrait emerges that reveals the hallmarks of a great leader: adaptability, calm assurance under pressure, the ability to inspire loyalty, and serious shortcomings, including his tendency to be indecisive and a reluctance to take responsibility for his mistakes in the field. As history has shown however, the traits that make a leader a great are also those that make them interaction with them difficult. In Troppman s words, During the French and Indian War, Washington showed signs of a true leader. He was self-confident. But he also was impatient and arrogant at times. Those traits made dealing with his superiors difficult. It is interesting to observe that great military minds through the ages, from Caesar to Washington to as recently as George S. Patton, have been remembered by history for both their difficult personalities and their extraordinary achievements in times of war. In 1758, Washington resigned his commission and left the army. It is telling that although Washington was only twenty-seven at this time, The men under his command thanked him for his care over them. A sentiment that gives insight into Washington s character, even at this early age to inspire the soldiers who served with him . . . [to look] up to him as someone who was mature beyond his years. According to Troppman, his men referred to their young leader, not yet thirty, as father , an interesting precursor to Washington s title as father of our country. White-Collar Crime Essay - 1057 Words
Today, worldwide, there are several thousands of crimes being committed. Some donââ¬â¢t necessarily require a lethal weapon but are associated with various types of sophisticated fraud, this also known as a white-collar crime. These crimes involve a few different methods that take place within a business setting. While ethical business practices add money to the bottom line, unethical practices are ultimately leading to business failure and impacting the U.S. financially. The forms of bribery and embezzlement have been around longer than dirt. The earliest white-collar crime, that was documented, dates back to the 15th century in England. Essay on American Identity - 956 Words
American Identity Works Cited Not Included American identity has been created by many events throughout the course of history. This country was founded on the clashing and mixing of many different cultures and lifestyles. One of the most important periods of time for this country was during the period of conflict between Americans and Native Americans over land rights. Americans had an idea of manifest destiny and that this land was theirs for the taking. The Americans were going to walk through anyone who opposed them in this quest for land. The treatment of the Indians during this time period was harsh, cruel, and violent to say the least. It is in this treatment that Americans came to view the Indians as a ?racialized other? andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦(Takaki, 36). This thinking lead to the belief that the Indians were worthless and simply impeding the spreading of a civilized culture. Indians from this point began to be dehumanized even further. Due to the color of their skin they were associated with the Devil. Th e settlers believed that Indians must be removed in order to progress in the settling of our land. ?God was making room for the colonists and hath hereby cleared our title to this place? (Takaki, 40). The early Puritans believed that they were meant to spread their religion and beliefs across the entire land. The killing of Indians for this purpose could then be justified by they were doing what God had wanted them to do. They saw themselves as messengers of God and they needed to get rid of theses ?Devilish creatures to do so.? The English created these negative and unholy images of Indians to lower their own moral standards. In their minds they weren?t killing another human being, they were killing a demonic unholy beast. ?As the settlers made their way westward, they developed an ideology of ?savagery? (Takaki, 44). The natives were then considered to be an unimprovable race. They were incapable of being changed, their traits were inherent and their descent caused them to be this way. Communication The definition of Communication is given by Collins English Dictionary (2009) as ââ¬Å"the exchange of information, ideas or feeling.â⬠Communication can be classified and divided in different ways. According to Gallegher (2010), communication can be one-way or two way communication; verbal and non verbal, and also says that the communication can be inter or intra communication. 3.1. One way communication and two way communication. One way communication occurs when there is no feedback or interaction during the communication. Two way communication occurs when the recipient asks clarification and interacts with the sender 3.2. Verbal and non verbal The verbal communication occurs when there is the use of words and can be written or spoken. Examples of written communication are: newspapers, posters, advertisements, books, while some examples of spoken communication are: speeches, discussions, lectures and presentations. Non-verbal communication uses other means that is not through writing or speaking, such as facial expression and body language. 4. The means of communication in the educational system The means of communication used in the educational system has been through major transformations following the technological advancement. According to An evaluation of students, the traditional method of teaching in the UK and in most of the world is characterized by one-way transmission from the lecture to the student, which refers to the teacher-center model of teaching, where information is transmitted to the students through the knowledge of the teacher, without much questioning by the student. However, this method has been changed, and the aim of the educational system has been supporting the activities of students rather than simply convey information. According to Gibbs (1995:1) student-centered method, encourages ââ¬Å"learner activity rather than passivity; studentsââ¬â¢ experience on the course, outside the institution-and prior to the course, process and competence, rather than the content where key decisions about learning are made by the student through negotiation with the teacher ââ¬Ë. The growth of this new method of teaching has as a major factor, the implementation of e-learning by higher education institutions. 5. E-learning According to Clarke (2004), E-learning is a general term that covers different methods which have in common the use of Information and Technology of communication, and may be as a complement to a traditional course as well as an online course where teachers and students do not meet. The term e-learning is the result of a combination occurring between the educations with the help of technology. The e-learning added new meaning to apprenticeship and blew up the possibilities in disseminating of knowledge and information to students and, at a fast pace, opened up new horizons for the distribution and sharing of knowledge, making it also a form of democratization of knowledge for the layers of the population with access to new technologies, giving them the knowledge available, anytime and anywhere. With the development of web technology, the processes of interaction in real time became a reality, allowing to the student to have contact with knowledge, with the teacher and other students, through the media technological 5.1. Blended-Learning This is a new method that has been growing in popularity, which is based on e-learning as a complement to studies in the classroom. Clarke (2004:120), defines blended learning as ââ¬Å"the integration of e-learning approaches with more traditional methodsâ⬠. As an example of this method we can mention the Blackboard used by universities. 5.2. Distance courses The training and continual updating of knowledge and skills of human resources are now a crucial element to achieve an effective and efficient performance. The application of information technology and communication to the area of training led to the creation of a new mode of apprenticeship: the distance course. According to Mealy and Loller (2000), Distance Education (DE) occurs when education is provided without the student and the institution being on the same physical location. With the distance course the student starts to having time to learn at their own pace, with the assistance of a tutor, without losing the ability to interact with other course participants. 5.2.1 E-learning synchronous and asynchronous 5.2.1.1Synchronous There are two distinct ways of teaching through distance learning: Synchronous and Asynchronous. Synchronous is when teacher / tutor and student / trainees are in lesson to the same time. Can be cited as an example of resources synchronous phone, chat, video conferencing and web conferencing. Through web conferencing, the teacher ministers the classes and students can hear the contents transmitted by the teacher. Thus, students may also ask questions and discussions. This is the model that most closely resembles the traditional teaching. ââ¬Å"The concept of classroom is extended to distance learning through the use of technology.â⬠Mealy and Loller (2000:20) 5.2.1.2. Asynchronous In asynchronous e-learning, teacher and students are not in class to the same time. According to Mealy and Loller (2000), the main feature of this method is that the student can participate in the study schedule that suits you. The teacher also is not limited to a specific schedule and can answer questions or participate in discussions at different times of the student. The big difference in asynchronous e-learning is that time is ââ¬Å"elasticâ⬠giving greater flexibility to the students in their learning, research and study. 5.3. Advantages and disadvantages of e-learning compared to traditional methods 5.3.1. Advantages According to Remenyi (2005), the three main benefits of e-learning are: Reducing the impact on the environment, quality education affordable and Convenience and flexibility for the student 5.3.1.1. Reducing the Impact on Environment There is no need of traveling; resulting in diminution of pollution reduces the use of papers thereby contributing to the environment 5.3.1.2. Quality education affordable Through e-learning, great teachers can share their knowledge without physical barriers, political, or economic, thus reducing the cost of education making it more affordable, ââ¬â The student can study at a respected university, out of state or even country, e-learning takes the social and physical barriers by giving everyone the same level 5.3.1.3. Convenience and flexibility for the student The materials are more accessible, depending on the method, can be available 24 hours 7 days a week, with no need for change in lifestyle. The student has the opportunity to create a personalized pace. 5.3.2. Disadvantages According Remenyi (2005), the three major disadvantages related to the E-learning is the lack of interaction between student and teacher, the lack of interaction between students and the need for basic computer skills. 5.3.2.1. Lack of interaction between student and teacher The tutor has a higher difficulty in judging the level of acceptance, understanding and retention, since it is not possible an immediate response from the student. There is a need for a higher level of motivation and higher autonomy of learning than classroom training 5.3.2.2. Lack of interaction between students Depending on the method used e-learning, such as the course distance, because there is no participation in the classroom, there is no socialization among students, which can lead to negative outcomes such as lack of ability to work as a team. 5.3.2.3. Need for basic computer skills Need some experience in using computers and Internet usage, also some appetite for the use of technology 6. Conclusion With the increasingly widespread use of new information technologies and communication, it becomes essential the adoption of these in the teaching and apprenticeship. The process that performs this learning environment is called e-learning. In eLearning, flees to the traditional model of teaching, the learning process is student centered, which can build its self-education course, interacting with the available content according to their learning needs in a way flexible, how, when and wherever you want, being the teacher / trainer the catalyst developing this process. In eLearning, the papers the teacher / trainer and school / university are not being replaced. What changes is its function, no longer educational agents, to be partners in apprenticeship. Therefore personal contact is not unappreciated, but become more interesting. How to cite The communications media used in the educational system, Essay examples
